Basset
Hounds are renowned for their long ears - (leathers) as they're referred to in
the show world, which means that they need to be cleaned at least 2-3 times a
week, as they can begin to smell through a build up
of wax in the ear . This you can do with just Luke warm water and a doggy
flannel, which you would need to clean after each use. |

Basset's
also have sad droopy eyes that can look like they haven't slept for days, this
is natural, and they will need to be cleaned daily to prevent a build up of
sleepy due in their eyes. Do this with Just a soft clean cloth or kitchen paper
dampened with clean warm water .

To
prevent your Basset from bad breath and a build up of tartar, you would
need also to clean the teeth at least 2-3 times a week, any pet store will sale
doggy toothpaste and tooth brush. You can also buy these things from your
local vets... "A good tip - 'Beef bones' are also an affective way of preventing
tarter build-up on the teeth!"

Unfortunately, Bassets are unable to clip their claws, and will need you to do
this for them too. If you are uncomfortable with that thought, than ask your vet
who will do it for you.

Worm your
Basset regularly, your vet will be able to give you all the help and advice
that you need.

When your
Basset reaches the ripe old age of just eight weeks old, it is then ready to have
it's first Vaccination - one of two, and once completed after a further two
weeks, will then be able to go out for "short" walks on a lead.

|
However,
it's always best when first training your puppy on the lead, to start in the
secure surroundings of your garden, until puppy is more confident! |

Finally, your beloved pet will need an annual booster to protect him/her
against: parvovirus, hepatitis and distemper. |
